About

The story so far

Solarcycles is a Dutch symphonic folk metal band formed in 2015. The band is known for its melancholic sound, blending the power of symphonic metal with the magical and epic atmosphere of pagan folk. Their music delves into themes such as emotions, the human connection to nature, and esotericism.

The band's sound is characterized by heavy guitars, symphonic arrangements, and unique violin playing. Lead singer Sascha van der Meer's vocals add extra emotion, which, according to both fans and critics, helps Solarcycles stand out within the metal genre.

Alongside their musical creations, the band is outspoken about the destruction of nature by humans. Solarcycles advocates for nature conservation and raises awareness about the impact of human activities on the planet. This message plays a significant role in their music and live performances, aiming to inspire audiences to restore the connection between humanity and nature.

In 2023, the band released their debut album Lunar, which received immediate positive reviews. The album was crowned “Best Folk Metal Album of 2023” by Folk N Metal, solidifying Solarcycles as a promising name within the scene.

Solarcycles has presented their music at various locations and festivals across Europe and has opened for bands such as Blackbriar. The band is praised for their atmospheric live performances that transport audiences to a world of mysticism and strength.

With the release of their single Rhythm of the Sun (2025), Solarcycles continues to evolve their sound and push new boundaries.

What they said

“The way Solarcycles combines the folk element with metal makes the sound unique. Lunar (the band's album) is epic and actually already legendary.”

Jaap Koper, 3voor12 (VPRO)On Lunar, 2023

“Solarcycles is strikingly capable of making their sound magical. Likewise, there are some standout guitar moments and, like an added vocalist, the violin does a great job providing melody.”
